If you are pregnant, we suggest you do the following:
- Get tested for STIs immediately
- Be open about your symptoms. According to the CDC, “it is well known that infection with an STI can make it easier for a person to get infected with HIV.”
- If you are considering abortion, it is important to get tested for STIs beforehand. Women with an untreated STI at the time of an abortion are at risk for developing Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID).
Women with STIs can infect their babies either before or during the baby’s birth. The sooner a woman begins receiving care for STIs during pregnancy, the better the health outcomes for herself and her baby.
